BOTIX Shares Practical Experience from Auto Spring at International Symposium
To advance the innovation and development of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS), the International Symposium on Cooperative Autonomous Navigation and Intelligent Supervision of Maritime Vessels was held in Dalian from October 24 to 25, 2025. The event was hosted by Dalian Maritime University.
BOTIX was invited to attend as an industry representative, joining experts and researchers from University College London, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Ningbo University, the Waterborne Transport Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport, Guangdong Ocean University, Chongqing Jiaotong University, COSCO SHIPPING Technology Co., Ltd., and other organizations.
The symposium featured in-depth discussions on system design, technology development, navigation trials, personnel training, policies, and standards for autonomous navigation systems. Participants presented their latest research, exchanged perspectives on emerging technologies, and explored the future of intelligent shipping.

Dr. Liu Wen, Vice President of BOTIX, delivered a presentation titled “Auto Spring: A Scalable and Replicable Electric and Intelligent Inland Vessel.”
Using the independently developed Auto Spring as a practical case study, the presentation outlined its purpose-designed approach built around standardization, electrification, and intelligence. Dr. Liu provided a systematic overview of the design philosophy, system architecture, core functions, and key technological innovations behind the vessel’s end-to-end autonomous navigation system.
Dr. Liu also shared BOTIX’s practical experience in the inspection and certification, full-scale vessel testing, and standards development of autonomous navigation systems. He joined attending experts in discussing emerging topics such as autonomous vessel operating models, pathways toward reduced onboard manning, and ship-to-ship communications.
Looking ahead, BOTIX will continue to advance maritime autonomy in collaboration with research institutions and industry partners. By contributing practical industry experience to the development of policies, regulations, and standards, the company aims to accelerate the transition of autonomous navigation systems from demonstration and validation to commercial deployment and support the high-quality development of intelligent shipping.
